Dear Scholarship Committee,

I am writing regarding the 2013 educational scholarship listed on your website. I feel I am a phenomenal candidate for the scholarship because I desire to make a positive difference in the world around me. Continuing my education in pursuit of my degree in Social Work will allow me to do just that.

I desire to pursue Social Work because I want to help people in my community by providing them with the necessary resources and assistance to positively impact their lives. As this scholarship would positively impact my life and help me pursue my goals and dreams, I want to give back by doing the same for the people I serve within the community.

As an active member Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America, I have had the opportunity to work a “little sister” in my community and have been amazed at how much we have impacted each other’s lives. Like me, she is being raised by a hard working single mother, in a low income neighborhood. I have been able to utilize the positive role models and mentors I have gained through the past several years to help my little sister. When we began this journey together, she was under disciplinary action in school and was not doing well in her classes. Since we have been paired, she has made huge strides in the right direction, and is now on the honor role and is a positive influence in her school. We make it a point to talk at least three times per week and to get together at least twice per month.

Continuing on my journey of excellence by obtaining my bachelor’s degree in Social Work will allow me to help other youth and to truly make life better for the people around me. My desire to learn and grow will allow me to put your scholarship funds to good use. Not only do I plan on attending the classes necessary during college to get my degree, I also plan on volunteering with college organizations to help with community efforts and serve others during my time in school.

As specified in your application requirements, I have included a letter of reference, along with my application, essay, transcripts, and three personal references for your review. I thank you for your time and consideration for this scholarship.

Dear Madam, Sir,

I am writing to apply for the Erasmus student exchange programme at you University. I would like to spend next semester of my study course at the University of Algarve in Portugal. Currently, I am student of Charles University in Prague, at the study programme of Environmental Chemistry.

I would honor the opportunity if you accept me for the Erasmus programme, because it will mean a lot for me and my future career prospective. Firstly, it would definitely be a very efficient and successfully method to improve my English and Chemistry skills. I have been learning English as my first foreign language since age of seven, and I believe that this experience at your University will improve a lot my knowledge because I will get a chance to communicate with students in similar circumstances. Moreover, I will cherish the opportunity to enhance my lab experience at your facilities, since your University has a great reputation in that field.

I would like to emphasize that I am eager to benefit from this programme, as I will get to know better Erasmus students from the whole Europe, exchanging experiences and practices. I advocate the opinion that Erasmus programme is excellent opportunity to meet various groups of young people, spend quality time with them and get to know their habits, attitudes, lifestyle, etc. Also, living, studying and having fun within international scholars would broaden my horizons and enable me to build strong social network with people through our continent.

Studying at your University I would have a chance to compare the Portuguese higher education system and Czech one. If I become your student I will use this comparison to promote the Portuguese educational system not only in my homeland, but in the whole EU also.

The reasons for choosing your University are:
-          Learning another foreign language, and get familiar with Portuguese culture and customs;
-          To get practice in modern laboratories and work in different environment that at Charles University;
-          Enhance my chances to find a better employment, as I will get a truly multicultural experience, highly valuated nowadays among employers.

Thank you for considering my application for the 2006 Allison McQuilliam Memorial Scholarship. My family and I have had many opportunities for travel across the world, which is where I obtained a broad view of problems afflicting individuals, families and communities. Through volunteering I have worked with refugees, foster children, foster parents and families in contact with protective services agencies. These experiences led me to the field of social work.
